Africa based Globeleq and its project partners Source Energia and Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) have begun the construction of the 19MW (15MWac) Cuamba Solar Photovoltaic (PV)Plant and a 2 MW (7MWh) energy storage system.…
The project is located in Tetereane District of Cuamba, in Niassa province in Mozambique. The project costs about $32 million. It is the first independent power producer (IPP) in Mozambique to integrate a utility scale energy storage system. It also includes an upgrade to the existing Cuamba substation. The electricity generated from the project will be sold to EDM through a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA). The Spanish company, TSK, has been appointed as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor. Globeleq, along with Source Energia, will oversee the construction and operations of the plant.
