Maldives floats tender for 11-14 MW solar projects

Maldives has launched a tender inviting bids in the pre-qualification process for installing 11-14 MW of solar projects across 14 major islands.

The solar photovoltaic (PV) installations cover hybridization of 14 island grids that rely almost entirely on diesel for power generation. This is a part of World Bank-supported Accelerating Renewable Energy Integration and Sustainable Energy (ARISE) project aimed to bring in private investments to increase renewable energy (RE) capacity in the Maldives. Projects under the tender will be developed on a design, build, finance, own, operate, and transfer basis. The successful bidder would have to sign a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with the existing electricity service provider. The Maldives seeks to accelerate RE development through private sector engagement, and with assistance from World Bank and aims to be a carbon-neutral nation by 2030. A standard public-private partnership project framework has been developed. The last date for submitting bids is September 9, 2021
