CESL resumes distribution of LED bulbs under Gram Ujala Scheme

Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) has restarted distribution of affordable LED bulbs in the villages of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, as part of its Gram Ujala Scheme.

Under this scheme, rural consumers will be given 7-watt and 12-watt LED bulbs with 3-years warranty against submission of functioning incandescent bulbs at the cost of Rs 10 per bulb. Any rural household consumer with a valid electricity connection from discoms can avail LED bulbs under this initiative. As of now, CESL has already distributed 252,069 LED bulbs in Arrah and Buxar districts of Bihar, and about 108,470 LED bulbs in Varanasi, Prayagraj, Kaushambi, Pratapgarh and Bhadohi areas of Uttar Pradesh. This scheme was launched in March 2021 and has helped to save about Rs 170 million cost and 50.6MUsenergy per year.
