NPPA hands over licensing documentation for El Dabaa NPP construction to ENRRA

Egypt-based Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA) has handed over the licensing documentation for construction of Units 1 and 2 of El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) to the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority (ENRRA).

Once the construction permit is obtained for the first two units, the parties will be able to commence full-scale construction.El Dabaa will be the first NPP in Egypt. It will be built in the El-Dabaa city in the Governorate of Matrouh, on Mediterranean Sea coastlines. It will comprise four units, each with a capacity of 1,200 MW, and equipped with a Generation III+ VVER-1200 reactor. Russia based Rosatom will build the NPP, supply nuclear fuel throughout the lifecycle of the NPP, and build a storage facility for storing spent nuclear fuel. It will also arrange for the training of the Egyptian personnel and assist the Egyptian party in the operation and maintenance of the plant for the first 10 years of its operation.
