MCX and EEX enter into agreement to launch electricity derivatives

The Multi Commodity Exchange of India and European Energy Exchange have have signed an MoU to share expertise on electricity derivative products.

The MoU will facilitate cooperation between the two exchanges in areas such as knowledge sharing, education & training and organizing events in the domain of electricity derivatives.EEX is a leading energy exchange in Europe, which develops, operates and connects secure, liquid and transparent markets for power and other energy products.Earlier, in November 2020, MCX had entered into an agreement with the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) to launch electricity derivatives which would be linked to spot electricity prices of IEX on the MCX trading platform. The electricity derivatives would help generators, discoms and industries to hedge price variation related risks and manage large power procurement competitively.
