SJVN and Nepal government sign MoU to develop Arun HEP

SJVN Limited and the Investment Board of Nepal have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop the 679 MW Lower Arun Hydro Electric Project (HEP) in Nepal.

SJVN won the project through international competitive bidding. It is a down-stream development of the 900 MW Arun-3 HEP being developed by SJVN. Arun-3 HEP is the largest project in Nepal entailing an investment of Rs 70 billion by India. It is being developed by a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN, SJVN Arun-3 Power Development Company Limited (SAPDC) on build own operate and transfer (BOOT) basis. On commissioning, the power generated from this project will be evacuated to India through a 400 kV double circuit transmission line to Sitamarhi in Bihar also being constructed by SAPDC.
