Vietnam’s EVN signs PPA for transfer of wind power from Laos

State-owned Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has signed a 25-year power purchase agreement with Impact Energy Asia Development (IEAD), a subsidiary of Asia’s leading renewable energy firm BCPG Public Company Limited (BCPG).

As part of the agreement, IEAD, which is the developer of the Monsoon wind farm project in Laos, will supply electricity to Vietnam through a 500 kV transmission line connected to the wind farm. The construction of the USD840 million wind farm is expected to commence in 2022, with expected commissioning by 2025. The wind project will also enhance Vietnam’s grid stability, as the majority of the former’s electricity will be generated during the dry season, which is complementary to the latter’s existing supply of hydropower electricity that is generated mostly during the rainy season.
