Japan’s largest wind powered green hydrogen plant to commence operations by 2024

Japan’s largest wind-powered hydrogen plant of 110 MW capacity will begin its commercial operations by March 2024.

The plant is a joint project by Hokkaido Electric Power, Green Power Investment, Nippon Steel Engineering, and industrial gas supplier Air Water. Located on the northern island of Hokkaido, it is expected to produce about 550 tons of hydrogen annually, sufficient to power 10,000 hydrogen vehicles. This project is a part of Japan’s effort to achieve its climate goals. Recently, the country has revealed its plans to cut down fossil fuels to 41 per cent in its energy mix.
