Power consumption rises by 12 per cent in July to 125.51 BUs

The power consumption in India has increased by 12 per cent to 125.51 BUs in July 2021 from 112.14 BUs in July 2020.

Meanwhile, the power consumption was recorded at 116.48 BUs in the same month of 2019 (pre-pandemic level). With this, the power consumption has not only grown year-on-year in July 2021, but also returned to the pre-pandemic level, primarily due to surge in economic activities amid easing of lockdowns and delayed monsoon. The daily power consumption and peak power demand met in a day touched an all-time high of 4,508 MUs and 200.57 GW respectively on July 7, 2021
