Power consumption in India increases by 9.3 per cent y-o-y in the first week of August 2021

The power consumption in India has increased by 9.3 per cent on a year-on-year (y-o-y) basis to 28.08 BUs in the first week of August 2021, due to easing of lockdowns and improvement in economic activities.

The power consumption during the same period in 2020 was recorded at 25.69 BUs. It is expected that the recovery in power demand and consumption would further improve due to higher commercial and industrial demand. Reportedly, the peak power demand met was 188.59 GW in the first week of August 2021, 14 per cent higher than 165.42 GW recorded in the same period last year.
