South Korea allows construction of Shin Kori 5 and 6 nuclear reactors byKHNP

South Korea has permitted the construction of two 1,340 MW Shin Kori nuclear reactors operated by Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power (KHNP), in Busan.

Shin Kori 5 and 6 nuclear reactors were given the confirmation of the dismissal request to cancel construction permits. The reactors are expected to be commercially operational by 2023-24. In South Korea, nuclear power accounts for 18 per cent of the country’s installed capacity, with 24 nuclear units distributed across 4 sites. Further, two other nuclear power reactors, the Shin Hanul 1 and Shin Hanul 2, are currently under construction in South Korea.
