Over 0.5 million EVs registered in India over last three years

A total 517,322 electric vehicles (EVs) have been registered in India from 2018 to 2021 with 104,806 EVs registered in 2021 alone (up to July 19), as per the Ministry of Heavy Industries.

The Ministry had formulated the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India) Scheme in 2015 to promote adoption of EVs and hybrid vehicles in the country.  Currently, Phase-II of FAME India Scheme is being implemented from 2019 for a period of 5 years, with a budgetary support of Rs 100 billion.  This scheme will focus on supporting electrification of public and shared transportation and aims to support through subsidies, as well as EVs – 7,090 buses, 0.5 million 3-wheelers, 55,000 4-wheeler passenger cars and 0.1 million 2-wheelers. 38 original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) have been registered under phase-II of FAME-India Scheme as on August 9, 2021.
