MNRE launches loan interest subvention scheme for WtE bio-methanation projects

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has launched a loan interest subvention scheme in association with United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) for innovative waste to energy (WtE) bio-methanation projects.

The industrial organic WtE bio-methanation projects are capital intensive and financially sensitive to operating costs and revenue. Innovations in such projects would help improve overall energy output and minimise the cost of energy generation. MNRE and UNIDO have, therefore, launched a scheme funded by Global Environment Facility (GEF) to provide financial assistance to innovative WtE bio-methanation projects and business models.  A geographic information system (GIS) based inventory tool of organic waste streams hasalso been launched to provide district level estimates of available urban and industrial organic wastes and their energy generation potential across the country. The tool will help project developers to set up new WtE projects and facilitate the rapid growth of bio-methanation in WtE sector in India.
