TANGEDCO to set up solar power parks in all the districts of Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) has announced plans to set up solar power parks with battery storage system in all the districts in Tamil Nadu.

The pilot project will entail the installation of a 1 MW solar power plant with 3 MW battery storage system at Kariyapatti substation in Virudhunagar district. TANGEDCO will also set up a 4 GW solar power park to meet the growing energy demand. The power utility has planned to set up 18-20 MW gas-based power plant totalling about 2,000 MW at Ennore to be powered by regasified liquified natural gas (R-LNG) from the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC). Pumped storage hydel power projects of 500 MW each will be set up at Kanniyakumari and Theni districts and feasibility of setting up 11 such projects totalling 7,500 MW in different districts will be studied. Steps will also be taken to sign medium term contracts to buy 1,500 MW power.
