Kalpataru Power Transmission has won an arbitration award of over USD32 million (Rs 2.36 billion) against the Rwanda Energy Group.

The dispute was over a contract to install and commission a 220 kV power transmission network interconnecting the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda in Central Africa. Kalpataru Power Transmission had entered into a contract for the design, engineering, supply, construction, installation and commissioning of the network in November 2013. The construction began in October 2014 and the operational certificate was issued in May 2017. This was a multipurpose project under joint development by Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo and was funded by the African Development Fund along with KfW.
