Government to extend provisions of subsidy under FAME II scheme

The central government is planning to extend the provisions of het Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME) II to the buyers of passenger cars meant for personal use.

The government is also looking to include electric bicycles under the capital subsidy scheme so as to bring down its cost for customers. The maximum subsidy cap has alreadybeen increased to 40 per cent of the e-two-wheeler cost as compared to 20 per cent earlier. The scheme now has a closure date of March 31, 2024 as against the earlier closure date of March 31, 2022. The fresh inclusions would make the FAME II scheme all-encompassing (covering electric vehicles being used both for personal and commercial use and public transport).
