Less than four days stock of coal for 64 TPPs

Less that four days of dry fuel stock is left with 64 non-pithead thermal power plants (TPPs).

As per the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), out of the 64 TPPs, 25 of the plants had coal stocks for less than seven days as of October 3, 2021. The CEA monitors coal stocks at 135 power plants of which not even one had eight or more days of coal stocks as of October 3, 2021. The total coal stocks available with the 135 plants was 7.8 million tonnes (mt) which is sufficient for four days. The daily coal requirement of the 135 power plants with 165 GW of installed capacity is about 1.8mt.
