To avert the coal crisis, Coal India Limited (CIL) has increased coal supplies to thermal power plants (TPPs). …
The supplies have reportedly reached 1.62 million tonnes a day in the past two days and the total offtake has risen to 1.88 million tonnes per day, as compared to the monthly average of 1.75 million tonnes. In a separate development, Ministry of Power has asked thermal gencos to import coal for at least 10 per cent blending while domestic supply ramps up. This is a sharp reversal of its earlier directive of using domestic coal. As per the National Power Portal, over 100 GW of coal-based capacity has supercritical stock (less than 3 days) of coal left as on October 11, 2021.
