Coal supply to thermal plants recorded over 2 mt

Coal dispatch to the sector will be further increased to ensure sufficient stock with power plants. Reportedly, coal supply to non-power sectors like steel, aluminium, chemical and cement will be curtailed for the next few days.  As per the daily stock data on the National Power Portal (NPP), as many as 116 power plants of 142,054 MW combined capacity have coal stock for less than seven days, as on October 12, 2021.  In a separate development, NLC India Limited is making efforts to ramp coal output from its Talabira II & III open cast mine in Odisha to up to 10 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) in 2021. The company plans to increase the coal production to up to 20 mtpa from 2022. According to NLC India, it has taken steps to achieve the target of six mtpa from its original schedule of four mtpa during 2021. The mine has crossed 2 mt coal production till date during its first full year of operation.
