Orsted to build a 4 GW offshore wind farm in Vietnam

Denmark-based Ørsted A/S has announced plans to deploy 3.9 GW of offshore wind turbines in the oceans of Vietnam.

The renewable energy (RE) project is expected to be executed in three phases with an overall investment ranging between $11.9 billion and $13.6 billion. According to plans, the company will install the turbines 14 km southwest of Bach Long Vy island, in the Gulf of Tonkin, and 36 km northwest of the Long Chau archipelago. The turbine will have hub heights of between 150 m and 200 m. Once operational, the wind complex will be capable of generating around 13.7 million MWh of electricity annually. This move will support the Government of Vietnam’s target of harnessing the country’s wind power potential which is estimated at up to 500 GW.
