Government to install 6,000 EV charging stations on 9 expressways

The central government has selected nine expressways and sanctioned 6,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations to be installed, of which 3,000 will be installed soon.

Since the biggest challenge in EV adoption is the time taken for charging the vehicles, the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) is working on a technology to reduce the charging time for EVs. Further, thegovernment’s newly introduced production-linked incentive (PLI) schemes are providing support up to Rs 3.62 billion per GW to accelerate the manufacture of batteries and EV components in the country. The PLI scheme is expected to lead to an investment of Rs 425 billion. The government is also providing financial support up to 13-18 per cent for EV manufacturers through the scheme.
