India to have nine nuclear reactors by 2024

India will have nine nuclear reactors and a new nuclear project in Gorakhpur, Haryana by 2024.

 In addition, the government is considering enhancing the capability of the Kudankulam nuclear power plant in the near future from 2,000 MW to 6,000 MW. The present capacity in operation at Kudankulam is 2,000 MW (Units 1 and 2). The project’s capacity will increase progressively to 6,000 MW on completion of KKNPP-3 and 4 (2×1,000 MW) and KKNPP-5 and 6 (2×1,000 MW) which are presently under different stages of construction.
