Outstanding dues of discoms to gencos rise by 4.4 per cent to Rs 1,210.30 billion

Total outstanding dues owed by discoms to power producers have risen by 4.4 per cent year-on-year to Rs 1,210.30 billion, in January 2022.

The discoms owed a total of Rs 1,159.04 billion to the gencos in January 2021.  The total overdue amount, which was not cleared even after 45 days of grace period offered by generators, stood at Rs 1,013.57 billion in January 2022 as against Rs 996.50 billion in January 2021. Discoms in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu account for the major portion of dues to the gencos. Overdue of independent power producers (IPPs) amounted to 54.56 per cent of the total overdue of Rs 1,013.57 billion in January 2022. The proportion of central public sector utility (PSU) gencos in the overdue was 22.43 per cent. The overdue of non-conventional energy producers stood at Rs 196.52 billion in January 2022.
