India targets to increase coal production to 1.2 billion tonne by 2023-24.
The central government has implemented a number of steps to enhance the production of coal in the country. These include commercial auction of coal on revenue share mechanism, rolling auction, and single window clearance to speed up the operationalisation of coal mines.Moreover, Coal India Limited (CIL) has envisaged a coal production programme of one billion tonne from CIL mines.CIL has identified 15 projects with a capacity of about 160 million tonnes per annum to be operated by mine developer cum operator mode.
