AC Energy (ACEN) has commenced operations of a 40 MW solar-plus-storage hybrid facility in the municipality of Alaminos, the Philippines. …
The battery energy storage system (BESS) comprises two 20MW facilities, each operating for 1.5 hours, for a total output of 60 MWh. The system also includes 24 containerised modules accommodating Saft’s 2.5 MWh lithium-ion battery storage systems. When demand is low, the batteries will be charged straight from the solar plant, and when demand is high, they will be discharged. The storage system will also be responsible for managing the local electrical grid and providing ancillary services to the national grid. The BESS will be used to assess storage development prospects throughout the company’s portfolio. ACEN started construction work on the BESS in October 2020 and the project is valued at PHP2.2 billion.
