E2S Power signs MoU with IPCL to convert fossil fuel power plantsto clean energy storage facilities

E2S Powerand India Power Corporation Limited (IPCL)have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to work closely to transform fossil fuel power plants in India into thermal storage systems for renewable energy (RE).

The thermal energy storage technology developed by E2S Power offers an opportunity to provide urgently needed energy storage while using most of the infrastructure in thermal power plants being retired. IPCL and E2S Power will work with major companies in the power sector to identify, evaluate and offer optimised integrated thermal energy solutions for existing plants and facilities being phased out.Thermal energy storage can be used for repurposing existing assets which willgive additional life to old projects. The levelised cost of thermal energy storage for 20-25 years of life is lowest among other technology and it does not have any bio hazard impact.
