Delhi government allocatesRs 33.40 billion for power sector

Delhi government has allocated a sum of Rs 33.40 billion for the power sector in the state.

Of this, Rs 32.50 billion or 97.30 per cent was earmarked for the free electricity scheme subsidy in 2022-23. During 2021-22, Rs 30.90 billion was allocated by the government for the free electricity scheme. The total budget outlay for the power sector was Rs 32.27 billion in the budget 2021-22. The Delhi consumers at present get a zero power bill for up to 200 units of electricity and a subsidy of Rs 800 for consuming 201 to 400 units of monthly electricity.In the next five years, the Delhi government plans to come out with a new solar policy to achieve the target of taking the installed capacity of rooftop solar plants to 2,500 MW (peak), which will contribute to 10 per cent of Delhi’s annual energy demand.
