KERC approves increase of energy charges by 5 paise per unit

The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) has approved an increase in energy charges by five paise per unit and raised fixed charges between Rs 10 and 30 perunit.

The overall average increase accounts for 35 paise per unit for 2022-23, up by 4.33 per cent.The hike has been done considering the proposals of the electricity supply companies (ESCOMs) for the recovery of gap of Rs 21.59 billion.The ESCOMs had sought an average increase of 185 paise per unit, accounting for 23.83 per cent increase, for a proposed revenue deficit of Rs 113.2billion.Further, the KERC has allowed a rebate of 50 paise per unit in the monthly energy consumption for one year for the micro and small scale industriesto help them overcome the adverse impact of Covid-19 pandemic.
