Scatec and AboitizPower make FID on 20 MW battery project in the Philippines

SN Aboitiz Power Group (SNAP), a joint venture (JV) company between Norway-based Scatec ASA and Philippines-basedAboitiz Power Corporation, has made the final investment decision (FID) for a 20 MW energy storage project at a hydropower plant (HPP) in the province of Isabela in the Philippines.

SNAP will receive financing from the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) and China Banking Corporation (CBC). Additionally, Hitachi Energy has been contracted to deliver engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services to install the battery energy storage system (BESS) at the 360 MW Magat HPP in Ramon. The battery facility, whose capacity can be expanded to 24 MW, will be able to dispatch energy to the regional grid during peak demand. It will be used primarily for ancillary services. The pre-construction phase of the project took place last year and included site surveys and basic engineering design. The start of actual construction is planned for the end of 2022 and commissioning is scheduled for 2024.
