Maharashtra and NTPC to set up ultra-mega 2500-MW solar power park

Maharashtra government has approved a joint venture between Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (Mahagenco) and NTPC Limited to set up an ultra-mega solar power park in the state with a total generation capacity of 2,500 MW.

NTPC and Mahagenco will have a capital investment of 50:50, for the development of ultra-mega renewable solar park.The state energy department has been appointed as the nodal agency for project development.The ultra-mega solar parks of various capacities will come up in stages at identified locations in Latur, Washim, Yavatmal, Chandrapur, Nashik, Jalgaon, Pune, Beed, Ahmednagar, Solapur, Akola, Dhule, and Hingoli. The Rs 17.27 billion project proposal kickstarted in 2020. The parks are proposed to be developed under engineering, procurement and commissioning (EPC) contracts in 3 stages on lands owned by the Mahagenco, and others belonging to the state, centre or privately owned properties for the mega-venture.
