MoP issues clarification regarding applicability of revised biomass policy on CFBC boilers

The Ministry of Power (MoP) has issued a clarification regarding applicability of revised policy for biomass utilisation for power generation through co-firing in coal based power plants dated October 8, 2021 on circulating fluidised bed combustion (CGBC) boilers.

In October 2021, MoP has mandated blending of biomass pellets made primarily of agro residue along with coal under the revised policy . Accordingly, the MoP clarified that clause 3(i) of revised policy for biomass utilisation for power generation through co–firing in coal based power plants is also applicable to the CFBCboilers. Mission Directorate on Sustainable Agrarian Mission on use of Agro Residue in Thermal power plants (SAMARTH) has been requested to issue separate standard operating procedure for fluidised bed boilers based thermal power plants.
