IIT Guwahati partners with NTPC for development of plant to capture CO2

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati has partnered with NTPC Limited to design and develop highly energy-efficient plant to absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) from power plants.

The technology developed by researchers at IIT Guwahati works on flue gas using a newly activated amine solvent (IITGS).It consumes up to 11 percent less energy than the commercially activated monoethanolamine solvent and 31 percent less energy than the benchmark monoethanolamine solvent, using a newly activated amine solvent. After the successful completion of the trial study, the test plant has been shifted to NTPC’s NETRA facility. The team from IIT Guwahati and NTPC are in the process of patenting the technology.
