Chandigarh administration plans to adopt Resco model for solar plants

Chandigarh administration has plans to adoptrenewable energy service company (Resco) model for solar plants’ installation in the city.

The union territory (UT) electricity department has agreed to the proposal of Chandigarh Renewable Energy Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST) for installing grid-connected rooftop solar power projects for domestic consumers by a third party under a Resco build, operate, transfer (BOT) business model. Under the Resco model, private companies will install solar energy plants on private properties and in return will charge the building owner a much lower tariff than the normal electricity rate for over 15 years, after which the house owner will be able to get the plant. The plant will be installed under the net metering mode.
