CIL’s supplies to the power sector up 14 per cent amid rising demand

Coal India Limited (CIL) has raised its supplies to thermal power stations by 14.2per cent during the first half of April 2022 as compared to similar period of April 2021.

CIL’s supplies have become 1.64 mt per day during this period against 1.43 mtin similar period of April 2021. The company had accelerated its production to 26.4 mt during the first half of April 2022 registering 27 percent year-on-year growth. To tide over the intense demand, CIL has made available additional 8.75 mt of coal to state and central gencos for lifting through rail-cum-road mode, till May 31, 2022. However, the escalating power demand driven up by the post pandemic economic buoyancy and hotter than normal summer seem to dwarf the upsurge in supplies.
