CCEA approves construction of 540 MW KwarHEP throughCVPPL

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved an investment of Rs 45.26 billion for construction of 540 MWKwar Hydro Electric Project (HEP) on river Chenab, in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The project will be implemented by Chenab Valley Power Projects Private Limited (CVPPL) a joint venture company between NHPC Limited and Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation with equity contribution of 51 per cent and 49per cent respectively.The project will generate 1,975.54 million units in a 90 per cent dependable year.The KwarHEP will be commissioned within a span of 54 months.The power generated from the project will help in balancing the grid and will improve the power supply position. Jammu and Kashmir will also get the benefitof free power of around Rs 45.49 billion and water usage charges of Rs 49.41 billion from KwarHEP during project life cycle of 40 years.
