Centre to set up renewable energy power plant in Andaman & Nicobar Islands

The Ministry of Home Affairs plans toset up a renewable energy-based power supply project with Japanese assistance in order to provide a stable and clean power supply to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The Indian government and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have signed a loan agreement on March 31, 2022 to deliver a USD 133 million loan. The project is being executed by the Andaman and Nicobar Islands administration and is expected to be completed by February 2024.The project will reduce the carbon footprint of the islands by replacing diesel-based power generation with clean renewable energy. The proposed project will provide power supply in the South Andaman region in particular.
