Tanzania has signed an energy agreement with Uganda for the construction of a 400 kV transmission line from Masaka, Uganda to the port town of Mwanza, Tanzania. The line will cross the localities of Mutukula, Kyaka and Nyakanazi.
The power transmission utilities, Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO) and Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL), will be responsible for the planning, construction and maintenance of the transmission line. The 30-km-long Masaka–Mutukula–Kyaka–Nyakanazi–Mwanza transmission line will carry AC through a single-circuit cable. The project, which is currently in the planning stage, is expected to be commissioned in 2025.
