Coal supply to Maharashtra’s thermal power plants up to 0.14mt

Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (Mahagenco) has been able to enhance coal backup at five of its thermal power stations (TPS) with supply of the commodity to the state improving

Mahagenco gets its supply from the Western Coalfields Limited (WCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited. From the first week of May 2022, the daily supply of coal has been around 0.14 million tonne (mt) as against the earlier supply of around 0.12 mt.Mahagenco requires around 0.13 mt of coal to operate the seven TPSs to generate aroud 7,400 MW of power every day as the demand for power has been on the higher side due to the extreme weather.
