Mahagenco signs deal with 3 coal companies

The Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (Mahagenco) has signed agreements with three companies to buy an additional 1.3 milliontonne(mt) of coal for its seven power stations, in order to ensure adequate backup of coal during the monsoon.

The decision to buy additional coal — 0.2 mt from the Mahanadi Coalfields  Limited(MCL), 0.5 mt from the South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), and 0.6 mt from the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), was taken after considering the fact that starting from June 2022, daily supply from coal companies could decline for three months. Over 0.7 mt of additional coal has already reached Maharashtra and the remaining quantity would arrive by the end of next month. This additional coal being bought from MCL, SECL and SCCL is apart from the 40 mt of coal that Mahagenco buys annually from these three companies.
