NGCP energises 500 kV Mariveles–Hermosa line in Bataan, Philippines

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has energised the 500 kV Mariveles–Hermosa transmission line project in the Bataan province of the Philippines to meet the growing power needs of the Luzon grid.

The project involved the construction of a 49.2-km transmission line connecting Mariveles to Hermosa, and the construction of substations in Alas-Asin (Mariveles) and Balsik (Hermosa). It has helped expand the existing transmission capacity of the area to accommodate more than 2,500 MW of electricity generation from various power plants in the Bataan. The PHP6 billion project was certified as an energy project of national significance by the country’s Department of Energy on January 16, 2019. Other critical projects in NGCP’s pipeline include the Hermosa–San Jose 500 kV transmission backbone project in Luzon, the Cebu-Negros–Panay and Cebu–Bohol interconnection project, and the Mindanao– Visayas interconnection project.
