CESL plans mega tender of 50,000 e-buses over 5 years

Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), plans to tender 50,000 electric buses on behalf of states in the next five years.

The tenders would not be backed by subsidy from the central government and are likely to be issued in phases, with the first one likely to be started by end of June 2022. The initiative of 50,000 buses, approved by Niti Aayog, is aimed at accelerating the shift to cleaner mobility, lowering costs and encouraging the entry of bus manufacturers into the segment. CESL recently completed a 5,450 e-bus tender that discovered 40 per cent lower prices compared with diesel buses.
