Bangladesh allocates BDT260 billion to energy sector for 2022-23

The finance ministry of Bangladesh has allocated BDT260.66 billion for the power and energy sector in the proposed national budget for the fiscal year (FY) 2022-23.

The government is investing in expanding the power network to ensure the availability of high-quality power andto meet the rising demand from the expanding economic activities in the country. The country is focusing on increasing the share of renewable energy to 10 per cent of the total generation mix and developing transmission systems to ensure an uninterrupted power supply. Key transmission projects under construction in the country are the 400 kV Gopalganj–Aminbazar line; and six transmission lines of 400 kV and 230 kV voltage for power evacuation from the Rooppur nuclear power plant. During 2021-22, the government had allocated BDT274.84 billion for the energy and power sector; BDT14 billion higher than the recent allocation.
