Petronas launches clean energy platform in Malaysia

Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) has launched its new clean energy platform, Gentari Sdn Bhd, that will provide renewable energy, hydrogen and green mobility solutions in Malaysia and the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.

The platform aims to build a portfolio of renewable energy plants, mostly solar, the capacity of which is planned to reach between 30 GW – 40 GW by the end of 2030. Apart from solar, the target portfolio will also include wind and battery storage. Currently, the company owns over 1 GWp of solar assets. Additionally, Gentari will aim to supply up to 1.2 million tonnes of low-carbon hydrogen annually. It has already commenced work on a pipeline of projects in Malaysia and other prioritised markets in collaboration with other industry partners. The first of the clean hydrogen projects is expected to be commissioned in 2025. In the electric vehicles (EVs) sector, the platform will provide green mobility solutions through an existing network of 170 charging with a goal of capturing a 10 per cent market share across key markets in APAC.
