QatarEnergy awards EPC contract for 875-MW solar project

Qatar Energy has announced that its affiliate QatarEnergy Renewable Solutions, has awarded the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for its industrial cities solar power project to South Korea’s Samsung C&T.

The project consists of two photovoltaic (PV) solar power plants with a combined capacity of 875 MW in two industrial cities in the Gulf state. A 417 MW plant will be set up in the Mesaieed industrial city, and another power plant of 458 MW will be installed in the Ras Laffan industrial city. To be located on an area of 10 sq km, both parks are expected to start producing clean electricity by the end of 2024. The electricity from the two solar parks will help reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of QatarEnergy’s facilities in the two industrial cities, including its NFE and NFS liquified natural gas projects.
