Himachal Pradesh government invites fresh bids for two hydro power projects in Lahaul

Three years after allocating two major hydro power projects, with total generation capacity of 520 MW, in Lahaul valley of Lahaul-Spiti district, the Himachal Pradesh government has once again invited global bids as the company that was allotted the project has not started the work.

Harnessing the hydro power potential of Chenab basin has become a challenge for the government as already it is struggling to start work on 300 MW Jispa Dam project that is hanging for last 13 years, and now even the 400 MW Seli hydro electric power (HEP) project and 120 MW Miyar HEP are facing hurdles, despite the signing of memoranuam of understanding with NTPC Limited in 2019. While 400 MW Seli HEP is proposed to be a run of river project with pondage scheme on Chenab river; the 120 MW Miyar HEP, a run of river project without pondage scheme, is proposed on Miyar nullah, which is a tributary of Chenab river. The last date for receiving the global bids is September 29, 2022.
