PLN commences work on USD850 million hydro plant in Java

PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), a state utility firm, has commenced construction on the USD850 million Cisokan hydropower plant in West Java, Indonesia.

The renewable energy facility will have a capacity of 4×260 MW and is a key project in increasing renewable energy’s share in the country’s total power mix. The Cisokan plant is expected to be operational in 2027. Under the Government of Indonesia’s 2021-2030 power development plan, PLN aims to add about 10.4 GW of hydropower generation capacity to its portfolio, doubling its existing installed hydropower capacity. As of September 2022, nearly 50 per cent of PLN’s total power generation comes from coal-fired power plants.
