Tamil Nadu government reduces peak hour power tariff for MSMEs

Tamil Nadu government has announced a reduction in the peak hour electricity charges for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) operating in the state to 15 per cent from 25 per cent for low tension (LT) electricity connection (LT III-B category) consumers.

The duration of peak hours is from 6 am to 10 am and 6 pm to 10 pm. Notably, the revised electricity tariff which had come into force from September 10, 2022, led the MSMEs to pay higher tariff during peak hour. Now, Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC) is to provide subsidy to Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) to compensate for the revenue loss.
