Odisha government has announced its Renewable Energy Policy, 2022.
The policy shall remain active till March 31, 2030. Large hydro, small hydro, pumped hydro, ground mounted solar, rooftop solar, floating solar, canal top solar, distributed solar, biomass, energy storage, waste-to-energy, green hydrogen, green ammonia or any other renewable energy technology and pilot projects commissioned in the state shall be guided by the policy. The policy offers numerous incentives like exemption of Re 0.50 per unit on electricity duty to captive and open access consumers on consumption of energy from renewable energy projects setup inside the state. Also, energy storage projects based on any technology shall be exempted from payment of electricity duty on input energy at the rate of Re 0.50 per unit for a period of 15 years. Further, a 50 per cent exemption would be applicable on the cross-subsidy surcharge for 15 years from the commissioning dates of the projects.
