Dubai’s DEWA commissions two new substations

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has commissioned two new substations – a 132/11 kV substation at Al Awir First with a transmission capacity of 150 MVA and a 400/132 kV substation in Jebel Ali First with a transmission capacity of 2,000 MVA, at a total cost of AED518 million.

With this, the total number of 400 kV substations in Dubai has reached 27 and the number of 132 kV substations has increased to 333, while 30 other 132 kV substations are under construction. Further, DEWA has awarded new contracts worth AED440 million for five 132/11 kV substations in citizen housing neighbourhoods in Wadi Al Amardi, Wadi Al Shabak, Nadd Hessa, Al Khawaneej 2, and Al Awir 1. DEWA plans to invest about AED10 billion in its electricity transmission projects between 2021 and 2024. This includes about AED2 billion for 400 kV transmission projects and the remaining AED8 billion for 132 kV projects.
