The Electricity Interconnection Authority for Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has kickstarted the implementation of the Gulf electricity interconnection expansion project.
The project intends to improve electrical energy transfer and exchange between GCC nations as well as strengthen Kuwait’s electricity network in order to guarantee the sustainability of electrical energy and avoid power outages at all times. The project is expected help increase Kuwait’s grid capacity to around 3,500 MW which will help improve its operational efficiency, making it the biggest beneficiary of the project. The project will also enable the transfer of about 500 MW of electricity to southern Iraq from the GCC nations.
